Are you Happy?

HMC is the network for positive women. My goal is to inspire healthy, happy living through my five pillars of happiness. So what does it mean to be happy? Are you happy?

The science of happiness is a new and growing field of study. University campuses are offering classes in happiness. Numerous websites exist all inspiring happiness. The pursuit of happiness is something we aspire to.  When happiness studies are done around the world, it is not the wealthiest countries that rank in the top. So I ask the question again: Are you happy?

Happiness is so much more than putting a smile on your face or owning lots of things. What truly makes us happy is about living authentically, living in the moment, feeling connected and a part of a community through family, friends and/or relationships. Happiness is about having the health to enjoy the things that you love to do. Happiness is a spontaneous laugh and feeling free to act on your inner child without question. Happiness is about loving who you are in this moment, making changes that need to be made and giving back to others.

Happiness is complex!!! No one said it is easy. Happiness is a journey and not a destination.

The first step is to love yourself where you are at right now. No judgment. Start with a positive frame of mind.

The next step is to honestly evaluate the different pillars of happiness and make a list of what you need to work on or what you need to change. This list will change over time, remember happiness is a journey and that is why you need to start with loving yourself where you are at right now.

7 questions to ask yourself

  1. Do I have a solid connection to community?
  2. Do I live authentically?
  3. Do I live an active lifestyle?
  4. Do I eat a healthy diet and fuel my body with whole food nutrition?
  5. Do I make time for me?
  6. Do I give back to my community?
  7. Do I laugh everyday?

If you answered yes to all 7 of these questions my guess is you are happy. However, if you had some no’s or kind of, sort of, maybe answers then you have room for improvement.

Remember if you want to change something in your life, you have to do something different.
