When was your first time?

Are you a virgin of adventure? When was the last time you did something a little outside your comfort zone? Stepped outside your box? Lived on the edge?

I really want you to think about it. Was it in the last month?  last year? or not since you were a kid?  As we get older we tend to get very comfortable in our routines.  We go about our day on auto pilot and never give a second thought to what we do or why. It is what is expected of us and it makes us comfortable. This works O.K. for many but what if there was something just a little more to life if we reached a little outside of the norm?

I like to use the analogy of going on a hike. When you go on a hike there are many different trails to choose from. There is the familiar well traveled safe route, it’s lovely, you know what to expect and at the end of the day you have accomplished what you set out to do. Then there is the less traveled path, you know it’s safe, but you’re a little nervous as it’s not familiar to you and it becomes a bit of an adventure. You venture off with a little exhilaration, eyes wide open and a sense of wonder as you round each corner. You complete your hike with a new spring in your step and a story to share. Sounds a bit like a child experiencing something for the first time.

When was the last time you experienced something for the first time or just did it because something in your gut said to?

I just spent a week in Red Mountain, Utah at our annual retreat and had 18 ladies trying things for the first time or at least the first time in a long time.  Whether it was taking on a new hike, hanging their feet over the edge of a cliff, trying a new fitness class, sitting in on a drumming session or talking to new people outside of their comfort zone there were many firsts experienced. I can tell you first hand how incredible it was to experience the excitement and energy shown when a new first was reached.

What is holding you back from fully experiencing the incredible life you have been given? It’s time to step outside your comfort zone because that is where real growth occurs. What are you waiting for? We may not always succeed but we always learn and grow in the process.

I challenge you this week to choose one thing you haven’t done in a while or maybe that one thing you have never done and commit to doing it.

  • Book your dream adventure.
  • Talk to a person that inspires you.
  • Sign up for a fitness, acting, singing class.
  • Sing out loud in public and get everyone singing along.
  • Laugh out loud.
  • Introduce yourself to someone new this week and learn something new about that person.
  • Skip randomly.
  • Overcome a fear.
  • Challenge someone you love to join you in your journey.

Life is too short. You need to know your limits but don’t let your limits limit you!

Think Happy 🙂

I went outside my comfort zone by taking my fear of heights and challenged myself to try the Angels Landing hike! Not only did I succeed my challenge but made it to the top! Awesome feeling!
