Last year I stumbled upon a fun idea called a happiness jar. It’s a rather simple idea, easy to make and brings me comfort when I’m feeling a little blue.
The idea behind the happiness jar is to jot down on a piece of paper each day something that made you happy and pop it in the jar. Then on tougher days or when you just need a smile or a laugh you reach in and read through what you have written. It’s an instant lift.
I made myself a happiness jar last year and sat it on my desk. Truth be told, I was a little lazy and didn’t do it everyday but when something made me happy I jotted it down on a piece of paper and put it in the jar. Yesterday, I decided I would reflect on my year of happy memories. Wow was it ever fun, rewarding and inspiring. I felt great after reading my little notes. Some made me laugh, some made me smile and all of them left a great feeling inside. It reminded me of what a great year 2017 was and even though there were some rough spots, there are so many more times of happiness and things to be grateful for.
I can hardly wait to start filling my jar for 2018.
I wanted to share this with you to try for yourself. There is enough negative news out there and sometimes we tend to focus on the negative a little too much. Make 2018 your year of positive energy and happy memories. Fill it daily, weekly or whenever you wish. Save it for the end of the year or have a peak on a tough day.
