Simplicity as defined in the dictionary is: the state of being simple, uncomplicated, or uncompounded.
To me, simplicity is the ease to which you live your life, uncluttered, honestly and with purpose. What that looks like is as unique as the finger print on your thumb. The key is to understand and know your true values and make decisions based on those values each and every day. Be authentic to who you are, not what you think others want or expect from you.
Do you say “I’m fine” when you are dying inside? Do you accept an invitation to an event you really have no desire to attend? Do you tip toe around an issue for weeks or months, lose sleep, get distracted and waste time instead of just asking a direct question of someone? Do you cry when you are sad? Celebrate when good things happen? Do you say yes or no for you or to please someone else?
I was inspired to share this with you after reading a short passage from “The book of Awakenings” by Mark Nepo. Here is a short passage, “Amazingly, nothing else in nature is indirect. The leopard trying to scale the mountain strains and shows its effort. The frightened squirrel in the tree hovers and trembles, showing its fright. The wave mounting toward shore saves nothing as it bows and spreads itself over and over against a shore that openly crumbles to be so loved. Only humans say one thing and mean another. Only we go one way and wish we were somewhere else.” pg. 127
How do you live your life?
Are you true to your authentic self? Do make decisions based on another persons expectations? Do you speak the truth to others or do you say what you think they want to hear? Do you speak the truth to yourself? Do you read into what you think others are thinking and never simply ask them directly how they feel? or what they truly meant?
Simplifying your life can be as simple as asking a direct question. It is extremely powerful. It allows you to clarifying what someone else said so there is no confusion. You simplify your life by being clear with others and with yourself.
Are you ready to simplify your life?
It truly is a wonderful way to live life.
