Hiking has become a true love of mine over the past 5 years as I realize there is so much beauty to be seen and lessons to be learned in nature. The other bonus is that you can do it anywhere, at your own level, you get great exercise, it clears your mind and it’s free!
All those benefits aside, the real reason I love it so much is that it doesn’t matter where you are or what time of year it is, nature puts on a show every day. Whether it’s the sun reflecting off the red rock canyons or setting over the ocean, the ice crystals in the early morning on the grass or the flowing stream rushing over the rocks, the changing colours of fall or the brilliant colours of the flowers in full bloom, nature creates a canvass to behold each and every day. Do you notice it? Do you see it?
We are so busy in our lives that sometimes we miss the show. When was the last time you watched the sun set? Noticed the signs of spring? Appreciated the trees that shade us, protect us from wind and produce the oxygen we breathe? I could go on and on because it truly is a show, each and every day and that is why I love to hike so much. It allows me to slow down enough to enjoy the show and reflect on all the things I am grateful for.
As you are reading this I will be hiking in the beautiful red rocks of Sedona, Arizona with five Happy Monkeys. Check it out on the HMC Facebook page. I am so excited to share my love of hiking in such a spectacular setting and with amazing ladies. I hope to share these experiences with as many monkeys as I can over the year.
Remember, you don’t always have to travel far to see and experience amazing places. Sometimes we get so wrapped up in our day to day life that we forget we live in a place that offers amazing beauty right in our own back yard.
Take time to get outdoors and hike, walk or simply observe the show.
Need a little help to get you going? Join me this spring and summer for our local day hiking adventures in Manitoba. Let me share with you our beautiful province and show you how to slow down enough to renew your energy and outlook on life.
