I have read many books and articles about happiness and followed numerous Happiness experts over the years. The science doesn’t lie, there are many things we can do to increase our happiness but one thing I noticed is that when you do it all in nature it is even more powerful.
I just wrapped up a 3 day hiking adventure with 5 adventurous monkeys. We pushed our limit on Hunt Lake trail, we slowed down and took it all in on Lower Rapids trail and Tunnel Island trail and then let it all sink in relaxing at Lake of the Woods.
When I reflect on the 3 days we followed much of the science of happiness.
- We were active everyday
- We took time to be grateful
- We ate healthy
- We got a good night sleep
- We laughed and played games
- We took time for ourselves to be still
- We supported each other with great conversation and sharing
So why do I feel so extra awesome?
I was able to do it all in nature. Nature truly is a game changer. There are so many lessons to be learned from mother nature if we slow down enough to listen. The past three days allowed me to do just that and share it with the happy monkeys. I truly believe that nature can take all the positives we get out of happiness practices and multiply it by 10. Sitting and being grateful in the forest is 10 times more powerful that sitting and being grateful in my house.
Do you spend much time outdoors? You don’t have to go far to find the joy in nature, you just have to get outdoors. Netflix, shopping, work, house work all suck our energy. Trade in some Netflix time for some time outdoors watching the sun set, watching the birds, listening, smelling, touching and watch the smile on your face grow.
