Walk for those who can’t

The Movement Centre here in Winnipeg has a special place in my heart. Imagine being told by our health care system that your child will never walk or that they won’t be able to feed themselves and be independent. Or your mother or father will never be able to hug you again. Heart breaking but true. However, the Movement Centre here in Winnipeg offers hope for these families and in most cases through conductive education these children and adults can learn to walk again and be more independent than traditional health care thought possible.

The challenge is that they are not funded at all by our government. They receive some grants through the Winnipeg Foundation and United Way but most of their support comes through fundraising events. These fundraising events keep the cost to the user affordable to most so everyone in need can have access. However, Covid 19 posses a new challenge as they can not host big fundraisers at this time, so they have gone to a Virtual event.

The Perogy Run/Walk began last year and was a great morning walking in Kildonan Park followed up with Perogies!! Yum! HMC was a part of that event with a team and this year I want to be a part of it too.

I invite you to join the Happy Monkey Club team. You can sign up online or simply make a donation. You can join the Monkeys on a walk or commit to walk on your own. The idea is to raise some funds for the Movement centre and get in some movement for you.

Tuesday June 23rd 9am-10:30am HMC will be walking through Fort Whyte. Meet at the WhyteRidge Community Centre,

Thursday, June 25th 9am-10:30am HMC will be walking to the Forks from Churchill High School. Meet on Churchill Dr. by the football field.

Join us and support the Movement Centre. Making a difference together.

You can sign up for these walks on our weekly email listing events.
