Happy New Year Monkeys. What’s in store for you in 2019? We will all be another year older, another year wiser and another year _____________. You fill in the blank. What did you write? How did it make you feel? Did you fill in the blank with a positive goal or a negative one?
Each New Year allows us to hit the reset button. We can wipe the slate clean and start fresh or continue on the same old path. Remember the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. Are you looking for change in your life or are you happy with where you are at? What is on your list of things you want to accomplish? experience? share? feel? Write them down.
Those are a lot of questions but this is the best time to slow down enough to reflect on them, assess where you are, where you want to go and figure out how you are going to get there. Don’t let life happen, set yourself up for success.
Life truly is a roller coaster ride. Some incredible highs, some low lows and a whole lot in between. The more I reflect on life, the better I get at being ok with feeling blue once in a while because I know it makes the highs of life that much sweeter. I also know the importance of setting goals, laying out a plan and knowing when good enough is good enough.
My New Years wish for you and myself is to slow down enough to really know what is important in your life, be able to say no to the things and people that don’t serve you and to be able to live in the moment and enjoy the things you love.
If there is anything I have learned over the past 10 years, it is the power these two simple acts done daily can have on helping me live a happy life.
- Each morning before I get out of bed I take 5 minutes to set daily intentions. I run through a check list based on the five pillars of HMC. What do I want to do today to live active, eat healthy, be positive, have fun and give back.
- As I go to sleep each night I reflect on my day and list 3 things I am grateful for.
